Details:
Went to a nearby field with my friend to watch the Perseid meteor shower. We knew there was slight possibility of Aurora, but I was doubtful it would be strong enough to be visible from our location. I am pleased to say I was wrong. In fact, it was briefly visible to the unaided eye, not just showing up on camera. I thought it would need to be at least a G4 storm for that to happen.
The day before I posted on my social media page that there would probably be some photos of meteors with Aurora, I did not think I would be able to post my own meteor with aurora photo! but here it is.
It's not a particularly bright meteor, but I am happy I got the image. It is actually the only photo of a meteor I managed to get that night. We were treated to a few bright ones but not a particularly high count, considering we were out for at least 6 hours, although we were somewhat distracted for a while with the aurora.
I first picked up the aurora in my camera at 00:43 local time (UT+1) and by 01:40 it had subsided and was just a diffuse pink glow in the north.
The BZ also started to go north again but we waited a while and it started to go south again, it looked like we might have been in for a second chance, but then the clouds started to roll in. That was our que to pack up and head home, which, I suppose did us a favour as we were both starting to feel quite tired!
