Details:
Had been following the progress of the latest storm. Decided to head up to Shenandoah National Park, and set up at a N facing overlook at 3,400 ft along Skyline Drive. The Bz was dropping into a good southern swing. Scattered clouds plus a broken veneer of high thin overcast. About 11:02PM Eastern (03:02 UTC) began to notice a faint glow in the magnetic N sky. It ramped up to the point I could see some columns. Surprisingly high above horizon for a relatively low level storm seen from deep mid latitudes-near Luray and Front Royal, Virginia. Persisted for about an hour before subsiding. Colors were mostly red. Tested a brand new Canon R5 (will post later) Posted here are shots from my trusty 14 ProMax. Was happy to have informed other folks who had come up only to photograph Perseids that an aurora was coming. They were quite pleased with the twofer!
