Details:
In the evening on Monday 29th July there was a smoky volcanic sunset in which a Spotted Eagle Owl appeared and perched on an electric fence post for about ten minutes a few meters from the upstairs veranda of my house on Murambi Heights. This enabled an unusual sequence of low light close up still images to be captured using a tripod-mounted compact camera. Eight of these have been used to produce two short time-lapse animations in which the Owl can be seen to swivel its head from front to back in a single motion without moving the rest of its body! The distant volcanic sunset view was taken just before the Owl was photographed. Camera: Tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 in sunset and manual exposure modes.
