Details:
Mercury (lower left) was at its closest (4 2/3°) to Pollux (center) and Castor (right) Friday night. Pollux and Castor themselves are 4 1/2° apart. Magnitudes of each are: Mercury: -0.7 Pollux: 1.2 Castor: 1.6. The time was ~1 hour after sunset. I spotted them first in 7x35 binoculars (which the camera's field of view closely matches) but could never detect them naked-eye. On Sunday they will all be in a line, but Mercury will have pulled further diagonally left by ~2°.
