On 06-22-24 I imaged sunspot groups AR3712 and AR3713 approaching the sun's western limb from my Manorville NY Observatory.
SUNSPOTS APPROACHING "THE DANGER ZONE": Sunspots that don't face Earth can be dangerous. Why? Because the sun is like a lawn sprinkler. It'll all make sense in a minute. First, take a look at these sunspots approaching the sun's western limb:
Both are turning away from Earth, yet any eruptions they produce this weekend could directly impact our planet. The sunspots are entering the "danger zone"- a region of the sun magnetically connected to Earth. The best way to understand this is by comparing the sun's magnetic field to a lawn sprinkler:

My imaging configuration was a Celestron EdgeHD 14 that I added in front of the telescope's main optical lens AstroSolar PHOTOFILM ND= 3.8 " Not for visual viewing with an eyepiece at all because you are risking your eyesight! Camera use ONLY at all times. The image camera was the Apollo-M MAX USB3.0 Mono (IMX432 ) with a Baader 7.5nm Solar Continuum Filter 1.25" on a Baader 2x Barlow. The weather was HOT and very hazy with poor to average seeing. The image of Earth is to scale.
