On 05-11-24 I imaged sunspot group AR3712 from my Manorville NY Observatory. This new sunspot AR3712 has increased in size 10-fold in the past 48 hours: The fast-growing active region has a mixed-polarity magnetic field that harbors energy for X-class solar flares. Any such eruptions this weekend will be geoeffective as the sunspot turns directly facing Earth.
My imaging configuration was an ASTRO-PHYSICS 155mm f7 Starfire EDF - 6.1" aperture (155EDF) refractor that I added in front of the telescope main optical lens AstroSolar PHOTOFILM ND= 3.8 " Not for visual viewing with an eyepiece at all because you are risking your eyesight! Camera use ONLY at all times. The image camera was the Apollo-M MAX USB3.0 Mono (IMX432). and a Baader 7.5nm Solar Continuum Filter 1.25". I stacked two Balows Tele Vue 5x POWERMATE and an ASTRO-PHYSICS 2x Convertible Barlow.
