Details:
From the South of Paris, where we live, the sky towards North is so polluted that I knew we had to find a (much) better spot. We travelled last minute to Vernon, close to the famous Claude Monet town of Giverny. Luckily, friends of my wife could drive us up to the football field of the Campus de l'Espace (Space Campus, indeed!), where there were a few hobby astronomers from a local club.
The display started well with auroras similar to the ones I observed in 2001 and 2003. Around 22:30 UT, the auroras became so bright that we could see the colours with bare eyes, they started to expand towards the zenith. At this point, I decided to switch lens for a fish-eye that could cover most of the sky. I was well inspired as the auroras even went across the zenith!
The first picture were taken at 22:35, 22:36, 22:37 and 22:42 UT, May 10th. They are 6 s exposures taken with a Nikon D500 and a Samyang 8 mm 1:3.5 fish-eye CS. I adjusted exposure and contrast, fixed the WB, but I didn't enhance the saturation! The colours are as the were "out of the camera".
