Details:
My daughter joined me for an all-nighter with the aurora last night. We headed south of Holbrook to get away from all the clouds and wildfire smoke around Flagstaff. The merged CME impacts absolutely delivered. All the morphing structures and reds and greens were visible to the naked eye. What a thing. First time watching that in action with our own eyes, and from Arizona. It was already going strong as twilight deepened, 8PM/0300 UTC and then another hit 10:50PM/0550 UTC and a final burst around 1:40AM/0840 UTC. ||
An extra bonus was that the camera was also picking up blues and purples, so I'm a fan of all the color in these shots. Tourmaline forests. Looking north at Holbrook on Hwy 77 here at close to 2AM. Watching all the unprocessed time lapse footage is mesmerizing. As much as I procrastinate crunching through time lapses, I've absolutely got to dig into these. What a night!
