April 8th, 2024 was a once in a lifetime experience ... literally, unless one is prepared to travel to some other far away place on the earth. Because the next total solar eclipse visible here on the island will be on May 1st, 2079 at 7:44 AM. It was a pretty amazing experience to witness such an event! But if I had it to do all over again, I would certainly simplify things. Yesterday I was trying to manage a solar telescope, two DSLR cameras ... and a GoPro. Some things got missed as a result. I have well over two thousand photos ... most at the partial stage ... but since this one is a little different I decided to share it with you. It was taken at totality ... at 5.14:28 PM at location N 48 01' 54.1" Latitude W 057 40' 29.3" Longitude at an altitude of 428 meters. That's on Route 480 ... at a site I chose using intimate knowledge of that highway and the path of totality given by the Atmospheric program cross referenced with Google Earth This shot shows about six solar prominences peeking out from high above the dark disk of the moon at totality.
