Details:
This image shows comet 12P/Pons-Brooks obtained yesterday, March 28, 2023. The atmospheric conditions were very difficult, with clouds passing continuously through the field of view, due to a squall front that is crossing the Iberian Peninsula. But I made the trip to be able to photograph it since the comet is still in a favorable position and it is a once in a lifetime object. Fortunately there were clearings in the sky of great transparency that allowed me to take a series of photographs to capture the comet passing near the Triangle galaxy M33. The comet shows two tails. One long and sinuous, the gas tail and the other short and diffuse, wider to the right, of dust. We took 120 continuous pictures of 4 seconds exposure each, with a modified reflex camera (full spectrum) using a very fast telephoto lens (85 mm f/1.4) on a static tripod. Subsequently, using software, all the photographs were combined (alignment of the moving sky and the static landscape) to show the final image. The photographs were taken from Llers, in the north of the province of Girona (Spain). In the background can be seen the snowy mountains of the Pyrenees, which marks the border with France, about 20 km away. On the right, covered by clouds, is the Canigó massif, with almost 3,000 meters of altitude, considered years ago as the highest mountain of the Pyrenees chain.
