For the first time, I was able to h-alpha image using the new spectroheliograph in good seeing and calm wind this morning. Wow, I am stunned! What a revelation! I can't believe how much better it is. The scans were nice and smooth today. On previous days with more wind, the scans would be a little jittery while I was recording them. If you can, look at this image at full resolution on a 27-inch monitor......and not a 3-inch smartphone screen! A lot of detail gets lost if you view at less than full resolution. I also attached my first attempt at a calcium-H image from the UV part of the spectrum. I had to rotate the grating, stop the scope down to 72mm, refocus the camera lens, and refocus the scope. This super-narrow-band calcium image looks so much different than the Lunt or Daystar filtered calcium images you typically see. Their calcium filters are 10 to 25 times wider bandpass compared to this SHG. 102mm-f/7 based SHG, Pentax Takumar 150mm f/4 collimating and camera lenses, ASI183mm camera.
