Details:
After several cloudy days, early this morning (March 15, 2023) I was able to see an episode of intense auroras.
There were faint diffuse auroras visible to the north as a delicate backdrop. I had to wait almost 2 hours (at -20ยบ C!) for the activity to increase and the auroras gained height in the sky and started to show structures and colors.
Finally the auroras covered the entire sky with a structured arc crossing the firmament from horizon to horizon. I took this picture at the foot of a pine tree where one can see the details of the aurora at the zenith.
I used a 12 mm full-format fisheye lens with a modified camera (full visible spectrum), to better capture the red colors of the aurora.
This time of the year is considered the best time for aurora formation due to the Russell-McPherron effect, which produces holes in the earth's magnetic field through which the solar wind penetrates.
