Details:
After several days of bad weather, it was the last opportunity to image the comet 12P/Pons-Brooks before the Moon took center stage. In this image taken on February 13, 2024, the Moon was already present with a 20% illuminated fraction. Despite the peri-urban sky illumination, it was fortunately quite transparent, allowing the capture of the ion tail that had been very active for a couple of weeks, revealing some structural details, especially a long and very narrow jet that extends beyond the frame of the frame. The comet's brightness is magnitude 7.2, and the red star in the lower right corner is 1 Lacertae with a magnitude of 4. 12P/Pons-Brooks @ 2024-Feb-13, 18:58 UT r: 1.423 au, delta: 1.801 au, elong: 52°E, phase: 33°, psAng: 10° psAMV: 287°, plAng: 30° Mag= 7.2 [aperture 7.1'], Coma= 11.2', DC= 5, Tail= >45.0' PA= 358° (Astrometrica+Comphot, Gaia DR2-G) TS-Photon 8" f/3.6, Atik 383L+. 19x90s, FOV=82x63'(crop), left:E up:N.
