Here's a very fine shot of Mercury October 9, 2023 at 14:47 UT. This is the first time that I have imaged mercury nearly a full phase (96% illumination) and 8 degrees of the sun. The sky was blue and the seeing was very good. I knew Mercury was closer to the sun than a week or two ago. I couldn't pass it up. Thanks for Venus and I used it as a guide to find Mercury in daylight near the meridian.
I'm surprise to see how clearly Mercury is especially at 5.1 arc seconds disk diameter. Almost every feature seen in the image can be seen in the MESSENGER shot. One rayed crater Hokusai lies in the north as a white patch. Kuiper located at 8 o'clock position near the limb. Of course, Dubussy and Ellington are seen well. Also rayed crater Suess a little further north and slightly to the right from Ellington and Worhol nearly in the center are seen very well.
Again, I believe this is one truly fine shot.
