Comet Nishimura is alive and kicking! We took advantage of today's favorable atmospheric conditions in Austria and hunted down comet C/2023 P1 in the evening twilight. It was not easy to spot but the images we took confirmed the sighting one day before perihelion. The picture shown here is a crop of a 135mm shot @f/4 with an EOS 1100, ISO 200, 0.8sec. The image was made at 17:58 UT on September 16, 2023, the altitude of the comet was 2.8 degrees, the sun was 8.5 degrees below the horizon.
