On Friday Aug 11th at about dark I looked up at my security camera monitor and noticed there were very distant occasional lighting flashes low on the horizon. Looking at radar I noticed the storms were over western Arkansas about 200 miles from me in Eastern KS. Looking back up I thought I seen something else above the lightning that had eluded me in spite of having shot many 10's of thousands of lighting strikes over the decades of the storm photography that I had done. Reviewing the security video on my computer, sure enough I had caught my first sprite, in fact I had caught many more before it was over. I am still finding them days later as I have to review the video in real time to find them as they flash in a single frame of the video and are rarely seen when reviewing the video in fast forward. I went out and managed to catch one more on my DSLR before clouds came in from nearby storms that started forming. Turns out my first sprite capture included many examples.
