Details:
While in Northern Michigan exploring Lakes Huron and Superior shipwrecks and karst landscapes, I became aware of Rockport State Rec Area near Presque Isle that has been designated as a Dark Sky Preserve. Cognizant of all the aurora and airglow activity mentioned on Spaceweather.com recently, I decided to check out the Dark Preserve during the pre-dawn hours of July 22 and was very pleasantly surprised by the appearance of dancing red curtains of aurora over Canada and faint rippling green airglow ribbons joining the sun-induced atmospheric fireworks! Attached is a gif animation of the aurora, airglow, Pleiades, and Jupiter rising in a Bortle 1-2 sky. The horrific light pollution dome is somewhere in Canada perhaps a mining operation (not a Dark Sky Preserve). Also attached is a drone image of El Cajon blue sinkhole near Alpena and drone shots I took from a kayak of shallow Albany Shipwreck in Lake Huron near Presque Isle. Keep looking up (and down)!
