Details:
On Wednesday evening, the now clearly visible two-day old 2.8 % illuminated Waxing Crescent Moon had moved close to Mercury and appeared below a formation consisting of Mars and Leo stars Regulus & Algieba to the right of Venus. In early photographs taken shortly before 6.0 pm only Venus, the thin Moon and the Mercury could be seen above the colorful glare of another volcanic sunset but the other objects soon appeared as the twilight arch faded allowing them to be observed descending towards the Christmas Pass horizon at the foot of Transmitter Hill. In the final photograph taken with difficulty in almost complete darkness, all of the heavenly bodies shine bright with Mercury about to set below and to the left of the Moon. Camera: Tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 in sunset and manual exposure modes.
