Details:
The type Ia supernova reached its peak mag of 12.3 at the beginning of April 2022, two weeks before it was discovered. On May 25th, the date of the submitted photo, it was at mag 13.8, and currently (August 11th) it is nearing mag 16. The supernova resides in the fringes of the small spiral galaxy NGC 4647, which in turn lies ominously close to the massive elliptical galaxy M60 near the core of the Coma-Virgo Supercluster; both are 56 Mly distant. The lens-shaped galaxy at the right edge is NGC 4638 while the little wisp next to it is NGC 4637; they're also about the same distance away.
