Details:
Mercury, which has been very difficult to see due to continuing bright volcanic sunsets, has been observed between 6.15 and 6.22 pm rising through the Leo constellation in post-sunset twilight glow. On 4th August it was in conjunction with Regulus and on the 8th it was in conjunction with TX Leo. The final schematic animation shows the daily upwards progress of Mercury from close to Regulus to close to TX Leo. The images were taken at f5.6 and ISO 800 with a tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix compact camera in manual exposure mode.
