Details:
Tonight's sunset display surpassed anything I have previously witnessed! I spent a good forty minutes outside in the freezing cold photographing the sky with my Nikon 3100 digital camera. I will upload some of these photos to Spaceweather.com in due course, but here are a couple of photos from my iPhone 8 of the volcanic glow to the EAST - directly opposite the sunset! I call this the volcanic gegenschein!
I have previously observed that the twilight glow extends 360 degrees along the horizon. I am curious as to whether or not my fellow southern observers, Noeleen Lowndes and Peter Lowenstein, have also observed this phenomenon?
The photo of Crux rising in the southeast was taken by my seven year-old daughter. It would seem that both my daughters are better photographers than their mum!
