Hi Tony A friend and I did an all night aurora watch on March 30th/31st from the famous Ballintoy harbour on the Co. Antrim coast of N. Ireland. The sky was completely clear and perfect. We waited all night and came close to giving up when suddenly we began to notice a glow over the ocean, stars began to vanish and enhancements appeared which morphed into beautiful vertical rays reaching 20 degrees tall. The rays could be seen dividing in two and at one stage six were visible at the same time meandering from west to east through Auriga and Perseus. It was the first CME hit and a beautiful G1 display. We watched it from 04.30 to 06.00 and it only vanished when dawn brightened the sky, the wait was worth it. Here are two images of the show with the sea stacks. 13 sec exposure, 15mm F/2.8 lens on Canon 5D Mark IV, ISO8000.
