This is in response to the interesting photos recently posted by Noeleen Lowndes from Qld and Tara Williams from NSW of the strange colourful sunsets being experienced in Australia due to a return of volcanic stratospheric aerosols from the Hunga-Tonga eruption. The accompanying pair of x30 speed animated GIF’s will hopefully illustrate how similar crepuscular rays, in the Mutare volcanic sunset display described in my last post, developed and faded. There are two sizes, small at 720 x 405 pixels and medium at 1080 x 608 pixels, to see which have fewer artefacts (disturbing speckles, granulation and ripples) than some GIF’s posted to this gallery. The two still images are unprocessed originals that were carefully exposed to capture as near as possible likeness of the volcanic twilight display. These are notoriously difficult to photograph and reproduce without exaggeration! Cameras: 2 x Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40’s in sunset mode.
