Spring time - Halo time
Fall and spring are the best times to see halos around the sun and moon. Central Europe is currently experiencing a severe storm season. The strongest storm is coming today with a forecast wind speed of 150 km/h on the Frisian Islands. A very dangerous weather situation. The previous storm passed over Germany only the night before last, with a prominent cold front and severe thunderstorms for February. At 16° C, Dresden was the heat hotspot at 03:00 CET in all of Germany! Almost even in Europe!
The warm fronts of such storm systems are usually very pronounced in these seasons, in contrast to summer. Well-organized ice crystals often create beautiful halos. Like here on 16.02. at 01:13 Central European Time: a perfect 22° ring around the moon that was very bright and homogeneous. Even the spectral colors were beautifully developed. Since there was a full moon, the ring was also at its maximum brightness. Further halos due to the high altitude of the moon could not be seen.
