It’s an unique experience to observe the Moon at high magnification trough a good telescope and under exceptional conditions especially with a binoviewer. It can almost give the impression of flying over the Moons surface which is impossible to recreate with a still image. So I wanted to recreate the feeling of being in orbit around the Moon using one of my own images of the terminator. I started by stacking 20 captures consisting of 1,200 frames each in Autostakkert3 and I then stitched them together in Photoshop CS6 resulting in a panorama stretching almost from pole to pole along the terminator. This panorama was then transformed into into an equatorial projection in Winjupos and finally mapped as a user-defined surface on the Moon in StarryNightPro+ 6. I placed myself in a virtual orbit at a distance of 55,000 km (34,175 miles) above the Moons surface and started a fly-over frame by frame using stop motion technique. I got a total of 513 frames which made up my original animation but it was above 120 Mb in size so I stripped away half of the frames and reduced the size so it would be within the 20 Mb allowed to upload to SpaceWeathers gallery. © 2022 - Peter Rosén, Stockholm, Sweden
