Details:
From December 18th to January 7th we had clear sky on the farm Hakos in Namibia. Therfore it was possible to image Comet Leonard on 21 evenings. Today we present this unique documentary - 3 weeks Comet Leonard. In this time we saw numerous outbursts, which led to dramatic changes in the appearance. From the first outburst before December 18 we could only track the effects. Then came the big outburst around December 20 followed by an outburst on December 23. Then you can see the smaller outbursts on Dec. 26, 30t and Jan 1. The always pulsating coma but also short-lived dust tails and the dancing ion tail have been an essential feature of this comet.
Two videos were made to demonstrate this. Once conventionally with a sharpening process. And once with the
Larson-Sekanina filter, where especially near-coma events are better seen.
All images were taken at the Skygems Observatory on Farm Hakos with Lukas Demetz's device (8"/f-3 Veloce QHY600). Almost exclusively luminance images were processed here.
Enjoy it.
