Details:
Saw the incredible image from the Canary Islands on Spaceweather.com yesterday showing a super-long Comet Leonard tail. So last night I took multiple exposures with my 100mm Vixen refractor and SBIG 16803 CCD camera of the tail and made a mosaic of merged images. My mosaic extends 15 degrees from Microscopium to beta Piscis Austrini where there is a large disconnection event in the tail. Some of the tail images were taken after the coma had already set at my latitude of 29 degrees north. Clouds came before I could continue on to Fomalhaut. The entire mosaic is 473MB and obviously I made no attempt to remove all planes, satellites and gradients. I linked the mosaic to TheSky software chart and made a gif animation. The cows don't seem to care! Didn't forget to capture some LRGB photons of the comet's business end. This comet has been a wonderful challenge and more clear nights ahead!
