This display was the result of a G3 solar storm, Kp=8.66, Bz=-15 at time of clip. These values are needed to see the northern lights from 41N latitude.
Activity started briefly around 7:50PM (3 Nov) and remained quiet throughout the night with mostly glow and a few weak rays until ~4:30AM. Then just as dawn was breaking, activity peaked as seen in this time lapse. It was visible naked eye with rays reaching 22 degrees above the horizon (the International Space Station is seen moving west to east in the last frames at max elevation of 22 degrees).
