Details:
What a night again in Utsjoki in the northernmost part of Finnish Lapland!
As everyone else, I was ready for the arrival of the CME that was launched by the X1 flare of 2 days earlier. I thought it was close to arrive when the proton density started spiking, even thought the solar wind speed remained mostly unchanged. The Bz value turned negative for a prolonged period of time, opening the way for some really bright and fast northern lights.
At the time of sending these pictures, the CME still doesn't appear to have arrived, but as I always say, we don't need a CME for gorgeous, fast and bright northern lights up here at 70°N! I mean, look at this corona in the southern part of the sky above the cottages!
