Details:
For the first time in years there are multiple large spots on the Sun. During the past three days it has been possible to view these through an electronic camera viewfinder just after sunrise and shortly before sunset because light from the sun has been sufficiently attenuated by passing through either morning mist and cloud or evening smoke haze from dry season burning. This evening (Wednesday 8th) it was possible to record the Sun with four sunspot groups clearly visible setting behind some trees on the crest of Murahwa Mountain without using any additional solar filter. The largest of these, the two core sunspot AR2866, is above the others and is the last to disappear as the sun sets. A rotated version of today’s SDO-HMI Daily Sun image has been superimposed on the last view of the Sun while still in the clear to show the sunspot numbers. Camera: Tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 in sunset mode with x60 zoom magnification.
