Details:
I, by accident, took a two-day pre-arrival image of the star Rs Oph from Chiefland Astronomy Village (Florida) on August 6, 2021. The light from the explosion on Rs Oph, which occurred 5,000 years ago, arrived at Earth sometime between my original image taken at 01:30 EDT August 6th and August 8, 2021 when Keith Geary from Ireland spotted it. The light from the nova must have been approaching the Kuiper Belt of our Solar System at the time I captured the Aug. 6th image. I used the same system (Canon 60Da and 8mm Rokinon fisheye lens) to reshoot Rs Oph on Aug. 11th from Jupiter, Florida (Rialto) several days after arrival of the light. A close-up comparison animation is attached. Distortions in registration are due to the fisheye lens. Had the light from Rs Oph Nova arrived at the time of my original image, I wouldn't have noticed it. Kudos to Keith Geary!
