Details:
On Thursday 29th, the close conjunction between Mars and Regulus became visible below Venus about three quarters of an hour after sunset. The accompanying images show the pair as viewed from Mutare just after their closest approach (0.7 degrees) at 16.00 hrs UTC (6 pm LT). For a while late afternoon cloud threatened to obscure the conjunction but in the event dispersed sufficiently to provide useful scale against which to see how close Mars was to Regulus and how far they were below Venus. In the final night shot taken at 6.36 pm the beautiful contrast between the red of Mars and blue of Regulus is clearly visible. Cameras: Two tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40’s in sunset and night scenery modes.
