Details:
This is a 10 image gif with each image 30 seconds long of the newly discovered Comet C/2021 O1 (Nishimura). The gif is from 1119:20-1125:02 UT on the morning of July 26 as seen from the early morning skies east of Tucson. The comet was only 7 degrees above the eastern horizon as twilight and clouds moved in just after collecting these images. The comet was magnitude 9.2 and 159 million miles from the Earth. The comet will be at perihelion in its orbit on 12 August 2021 when it will be 74 million miles from the Sun and may brighten to magnitude 9. The comet will make its close approach to Earth on 5 August 2021 at 158 million miles. If one wants to view it with a telescope or get images of it do it in the next week before it moves into the glare of the Sun and by the second week of August below the eastern horizon at twilight as seen from the Northern Hemisphere.
