Details:
As many people did, we had a fabulous evening of noctilucent clouds over southern Alberta on June 27-28, 2021. They started out covering much of the northern sky up to the zenith then retreated down and to the northwest as the Sun angle dropped.
What was particularly noticeable to the eye and camera was the prominent red tint to the tops of the clouds as they descended, from red light from the setting Sun at the edge of its illumination of the clouds. The display was most colourful when it was restricted to an arc across the northern horizon. The clouds presented a full rainbow of colours.
We are enjoying very clear nights now under a massive high pressure area over western Canada but the NLCs only appear every few nights. Most nights there is nothing to see despite the clear skies.
