Details:
If viewing conditions are perfect seven phases of the Moon from Very Thin Young to Exact First Quarter can be observed in the first week of a lunar month. This June six phases ranging from Thin Young to Almost First Quarter were on display from the 12th to 17th as shown in the accompanying mosaic and time-lapse animation. The initial phase on the 11th was not visible from Mutare because the Moon was less than 1% illuminated and was too thin and not bright enough to be seen above the bright glare of sunset. The First Quarter Phase was not quite complete on the evening of the 17th but the full frame view of it clearly shows the pareidolic Lunar X and V features near the terminator. The final composite of pictures taken on 14th March 2021 (top) and 30th July 2017 (bottom) shows the extremes from Very Thin Young to Exact First Quarter that the Moon can display. Camera: Tripod Mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS40 in sunset mode with up to x90 optical + digital zoom magnification.
