Cylindrical clouds visible from Grindelwald (Berne) intrigued two hikers on March 10. According to MeteoNews, the army planes from Meiringen are not to blame.
Cloud rings visible above the Eiger intrigued two hikers who wanted to enjoy the mild weather on Wednesday at around 4 pm.
According to the witnesses, two distinct rings were visible from Grindelwald (BE). If one disappeared after a few minutes, the other one stayed longer in the Bernese sky.
Contacted by "20 Minuten", a specialist of MeteoNews affirms that this appearance "cannot be due to something natural." The most likely hypothesis is that it could be traces of air force test flights. "When weather conditions are optimal, these flights leave behind contrails that are noticeable to the naked eye."
The communications department at the nearby military airfield in Meiringen (BE) confirms that flights were taking place at the time in question, but does not wish to comment further.
