Details:
The red auroras are back! This happened several times earlier this season and tonight again: slow solar wind, consistently positive Bz, and voilĂ : a red glow above the green in the aurora.
I took these 4 images between 10:30 and 11:00 PM local Finnish time.
Now the truth about these: the northern lights were truly visible to the naked eye, but looked white. These images are taken at 6400 ISO with a 10 to 13s shutter speed at f/1.8. So you can imagine how faint they were.
Surprisingly those images are quite sharp... A 10s exposure with nearly 20m/s wind gusts was how to say... Challenging!
