Details:
Between 1 and 2 am on Monday 22nd there was a most amazing night-time display of different types of lightning in an accumulation of thunder clouds being generated by very unstable meteorological conditions over Mutare and environs. These included some gigantic cloud-to-cloud and cloud-to-ground lightning bolts, vivid reflections of sheet lightning which lit up the whole sky and some spectacular anvil crawlers which extended for several kilometres. Here are some views of one particularly spectacular anvil crawler which bifurcated and appeared to head directly towards the camera viewpoint. Fortunately it remained high and far away. All images are frames extracted from video recorded by a tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS40 in night scenery mode.
