Last night was all about green and clouds. I got a message from a friend yesterday, late evening, asking me if I am going out and if I checked the data. As a matter of fact I did check it few hours ago and no suspicious activity was to report to take me out and chase the lights. It is amazing how quick things are changing. Indeed the data was looking great; every parameter of the solar wind was climbing and was where supposed to be for a great show. Got dressed as for -30C, warmed up my car and started driving. The clouds moved in early evening and few patches of clear sky were to be seen. I drove to the near location I used days ago, and the clouds were taking over the sky, fast, moving furiously from the west. Change in plans and drove another 100Km until I got away partially from the clouds, arriving at the second location. The clouds were still hanging to the northern horizon and to the west but at least, east was looking clear and overhead as well. All night was kind a game between the mouse and the cat. The clouds moved in early and they stayed for good. Once in a while got some clear patches and clouded again. Was back and forth until 1:00 am when the clouds covered the sky with a thick, ugly dark greyish blanket. Luckily between those breaks I was able to catch the beauty of the Aurora dancing as a torch starting from the east and reaching overhead towards west. Multiple parallel bands overhead were to be seen. Can’t imagine what the others with clear sky were witnessing. After I left location, started snowing and I was still able to see her dancing through the clouds and snow… tells a lot of how powerful was the show….(February 15- February 16, 2021, Municipal District of Opportunity No. 17, Alberta, Canada, (D850, Sigma Art 14mm 1.8, ISO 3200 &4000; 1.6, 2, 3& 6 seconds exposure; f 1.8, 14mm).
