Wow! Despite very average solar wind conditions, the northern lights made a remarkable appearance last night in the sky of Utsjoki in the far north of Finnish Lapland!
For a long while, all we could see was a weak green band above the northern horizon. Around 10 PM local time, it started growing towards the zenith and for about 30-40 minutes we experienced a really nice show including some super fast movement and a purple nitrogen fringe!
I was broadcasting all this live and because of the crazy temperature, it was hard to do anything else in parallel, so here are only 2 still images. Oh yes, it was -36°C / -33°F!
What a good night to be outside anyway!
