Details:
This rare, extreme lunar libration reveals Mare Orientale surrounded by the 620 km diameter Montes Rook and the 930 km diameter Montes Cordillera, inner and outer rings of this impact basin. Both ranges can be seen curving around the north and south margins of the basin, with Mare Pacificus (unofficial name) on both sides of Montes Rook. This is a ring-shaped pyroclastic deposit, in contrast to the mare basalts of Mare Orientale. Other areas of interest are also labeled. It is a rare privilege to see this much of the Orientale basin.
