Details:
Tonight (22 to 23 September) is the autumn equinox in the northern hemisphere. After days of clouds, rain and wind, the weather was finally clear here in Utsjoki. Despite solar wind data showing nothing to write home about, it was equinox night! So of course, I set up outside on the shore of the river, and waited for a small miracle to happen.
With low solar wind speed and low density, I wasn't expecting much, until yet again a dip of Bz into negative territory saved the night!
After the aurora displayed its usual band across the sky, it changed into funky nearly patterns that covered the entire sky (last picture).
Together with Mars and Venus in the sky, this was a very beautiful night here in the Arctic!
