The pointy blade structure of the spicule. Composed here on the northerly pole of the sun.
A pier of Ionized calcium atoms. These flame like protrusions form a network which exchanges higher energy from the solar corona, relayed by the unique "hollow magnetic straw" of the chromosphere. By actions not fully understand, the energy can accumulate below the solar photosphere, where it forms "magnetic straw bundles" capable of unleashing an explosive solar flare. However, During periods of extended calm and low solar activity; The spicule layer resembles a field of tall grass swaying gently in a light breeze.
