Had thunderstorms yesterday, but fairly clear, cleaner skies this morning. WOW, what a change in the last 72 hours! Easy to see naked eye, even as twilight progressed. Made these guided images with 135 and 300 mm NIKKOR lenses on a Canon Rebel XTi body.
I noticed 48 hours ago that the comet appeared to have developed synchronic bands on the opposite side of the main dust tail from the ion tail, visible in a B&W image from Michael Jaeger. I inquired of him if they were real or processing artifacts or clouds, and he confirmed them with a new image in this gallery dated July 10, 6:09 am. CHECK IT OUT!
