My second morning observing Comet NEOWISE. Wow! It's really looking like a comet this morning because I can see more of a tail. This is probably because my sky is clearer today than yesterday. Again the comet was easy in 7x40 binoculars. With the naked eye, much more difficult but I think I caught glimpses of it with a bit of averted vision. All these observations were between 4:05 am and 4:30 am in moderate twilight (local sunrise is at 5:15 am). Using the nearby stars Theta Auriga (v=+2.6) and Beta Tauri (Elnath, v=+1.7), I would estimate that the nucleus of NEOWISE was about +2. If this brightness holds, the comet will become much easier to see in coming days when it can be seen in a darker sky. My photo was taken with a Nikon D7200, 70-300mm Nikon zoom at 300mm, f/5.6, 1.6 seconds, ISO 400, no tracking. Exposure was determined by just shooting in P mode. Dark View Observatory, Portal, AZ.
