Details:
Maybe the first ever image of a noctilucent cloud in 3D?
On 7 June 2020 at 22:24 we took simultaneous images of a noctilucent cloud from two different locations in Northern Germany. The long baseline of 120 km allowed to construct a real 3D image of that cloud. First the images were reprojected onto the ground. Then an anaglyph was created from their undistorted images. Using red/cyan glasses you can see the true 3D-structure of that cloud. Especially apparent is its turbulent front (top of image). There, layers are folded on top of each other. Even fine detail is visible in 3D. The cloud is shown as if viewed from below. Thus, structure closer to you is closer to the ground. From the images and their geolocation, the average altitude of the cloud of 84 km could be deduced. Its lowest parts were at 83 km and its highest at 85 km.
