Details:
Venus was just 3.2 degrees from the Sun. Pointing the telescope at Venus today meant it was partially pointed towards the Sun. Definite fire hazard! Only 0.2% of the disk is illuminated and the cusps of the crescent actually extend right around the disk (because Venus has an atmosphere and it scatters the sunlight). The only way I could take this was because the incline of the house roof hid the Sun for about 20 minutes while Venus remained above it. I couldn't believe my luck! Meade LX10 8", QHY5IIP mono camera, IR pass (742nm), best 1% of 15,000 frames stacked.
