Details:
The geomagnetic storm that never happened. Don't get me wrong, the Auroras were really nice and beautiful. But with a coronal hole wide open, 500 km/s + solar wind speed and a decent density, I was expecting much more than this! In comparison, 2 nights ago with much less promising solar wind, we got exceptionally bright auroras.
Anyway, tonight the show started as soon as it became dark, together with a beautiful triangle with the Moon, Venus and the Pleiades.
It continued well into the night, displaying several shapes and even all the way into the southern sky (the picture where I stand on the road).
Not a bad night in Finnish Lapland, but also not the "bang" that I had hoped for to finish the season! We still have a few days left of darkness up here in Utsjoki, so fingers crossed for one more big display!
