Details:
On Friday 27th an unexpected late rainy season thunderstorm developed in the afternoon over Mutare which lasted for about an hour with frequent rumbles of thunder, some visible flashes of lightning but only localised rainfall. Several distant lightning strikes were captured on video including this extraordinary bolt which took a long tortuous scenic route before striking the flank of Hospital Hill. The accompanying still image, four frame montage and looped real-time and half-speed animations show that it started off as an elevated anvil crawler before becoming a multiple cloud-to-ground strike. It was unpredictable and dangerous as much of the lightning in Zimbabwe is! Camera: Tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in HD video mode.
