Details:
Last night I was guiding a group for a multi day tour with Lights Over Lapland. The sky was nice and clear all day and nigh so we had high hopes for a nice display. We could see some gentle auroras through the windows of the hotel while we ate our evening meal. When we went on the night tour we had to wait a little while for the aurora for to start. After a little while of peace and tranquility at our wilderness site the lights started to pulse in and out growing in strength. At one point I noticed that the lights were directly above Mt. Noulja, the most prevalent landmark in the area so I decided to grab a longer lens to try to find a slightly different angle and to buck the trend of wide angle photography that is so prevalent with the northern lights. The use of a longer lens allowed me to see the lights in a slightly different perspective, which I think worked quite well. About 2 minutes after this we had a full blown corona but alas I had the long lens on!! Cest la vie :)
